The Housing First Community Coalition Board of Directors have announced the appointment of Edward Gonzales as Executive Director.
Gonzales is currently serving as Assistant Director for the City of San Antonio’s Housing and Neighborhood Services Department, where he oversees Grants from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, Housing Production and Rehabilitation Programs, Neighborhood Engagement activities, and the City’s $189 million Emergency Housing Assistance Program.
“We are excited to welcome Edward to the organization. He will help us build collaborative partnerships with homeless service providers, the City of San Antonio, and the individuals currently experiencing chronic homelessness,” said Mark Wittig, HFCC Board President.
He served previously as the Assistant Director for the Human Services Department, where he oversaw the development of the cafécollege initiative, Migrant Resource Center, and the Mayor’s Challenge to End Veteran Homelessness. He also served as a previous board member for the South Alamo Regional Alliance for the Homeless (SARAH).
“Edward is a strategic thinker, problem-solver, and bridge builder. He was a critical leader in forming the Continuum of Care Lead Agency, SARAH, and an early supporter of Dr. Plauche’s vision to develop permanent supportive housing for older adults experiencing homelessness in San Antonio. We are thrilled about Edward’s appointment and look forward to working with him in his new role!” said Katie Vela, Executive Director of SARAH.
Mr. Gonzales has a Bachelor of Science in Software Engineering and Computer Application and a Master’s of Science in Industrial Engineering from St. Mary’s University.
Gonzales begins his role with the Housing First Community Coalition on October 4, 2021.
